Ruffner Mountain

A few Saturday's ago I put on my hiking boots, camelbak, and positive attitude for a hike of Ruffner Mountain. Just kidding....Chris did all that. We had a wonderful guided tour from Chris Underwood. I believe we hiked a few miles in a few hours on a bottle of water. I don't know how I got so out of shape but the trail kicked my tail. The entrance we took was on Ruffner Road probably less than 2 miles from my house. We had a great time of fellowship hiking right through the middle of what God created. How in the world did I manage to get to Destin again? My friend Lacie from college invited me to join her for a wonderful girls trip. We had a blast doing NOTHING! Im not sure I have ever relaxed that much in my life. Her Mom Diane and friend Cindy were there also. We got some sun, we got some rain, and we got some RED BAR. Im so lucky. One night we stayed in and watched American Idol. We went to Red Bar and Baytown Wharf/The Funky Blues Shack one night. The other night we went to Harry T's and Baytown Wharf/Rum Runners. Thanks Lacie!

When work takes you to the BEACH

Every Mother's Day weekend my sister and I go to Destin. Wood Fruitticher, the company we order groceries from sends us to a food show. Who wants to work at the beach? Well, we do it all for Cafe On Main. The food show is always fun. It's a time to sample new products, order food at discounted rates, and run into other restaurant owners from all over the southeast. After the show we hit the beach. At night we go to RED BAR. This year we determined that after eating there 2 nights out of 3 that next year we will eat there all 3 nights. The food is great, prices are good, and the music couldn't be better. After we fill our stomaches we head to Baytowne Wharf. Baytowne really pretty at night. Rum Runners is the hot spot-piano bar.

Milk It For All It's Worth

I rarely read the Wednesday sales paper. The Aldi advertisement fell out of my hands and I noticed they were selling milk for $1.49 a gallon. In the past I have shopped there for milk because it was cheaper than Sams Club. I had to stop by on my weekly grocery stop to see if the price was real. Yep...$1.49 a gallon. They offer whole, 1%, and skim. Now, you ask why I have a cart full?!?!?! At Cafe On Main we can go through milk quicker than a baby. This cart full could last us up to 4 days. Check out Aldi if you get a chance. The store itself reminds me of Sav-a-Lot however the quality of the food is much better. The staff is very friendly and helpful as well.

My dear friend Niki is have her first baby in June. I am so excited for her and her husband. They are such wonderful friends. All the girls hosted a coffee for Niki. Brooke opened her home for all of us. I can't think of anything they didn't get. Great Pary! I can't wait to meet you Whit Davis Lincoln.

A friend of mine who is also a customer introduced me to these 'crazy Canadians' in late January. Life hasn't been the same since these 2 characters have been hanging out with us. Fillip and Ryan are from Toronto, Canada. We have not found anything they do not like. These boys are well rounded for sure! Ryan is a chef and has already prepared several yummy meals for us :)

Vulcan

My friend Chris Underwood (we attended preschool-highschool together) and I visited Vulcan Park recently. Vulcan has a wonder museum that displays many details about the great city of Birmingham we live in. If you ever get a chance to visit its a great place for a picnic or entertainment for kids. The entire facility was recently reconstructed. All of the new stone is from Oneonta. I give the completed project an A+. Also, the observatory is open daily. My friend Kelli got married in November and had her wedding reception there....we had a blast! (I will try to find a few pics to post from the reception)

The week before Christmas I got a great surprise at work. My friend Jeremy Duke came into the cafe with a box wrapped for me. He said, "I hope you like it, Sharon's mom made it". (Sharon is his girlfriend) Of course I was curious as to what it was going to be. When I opened the box I was in for a big surprise...a HAND KNITTED SCARF! The scarf is black so it will go with everything. Below is a picture of me with it on. You can't see the details but Sharon's mom did a great job knitting it. I really appreciate handmade items. For those of you who don't know I have a degree in Fashion Merchandising. I may never work in that field of study but I sure do have a love for textiles. Thanks again Sharon and Jeremy for the scarf.

Happy New Year!

I didn't have plans for New Years Eve this year. At the last minute several friends talked me into having everyone over. We had a great time. Fireworks lasted for 2 hours! (thanks J. Holt) Cricket brought rasberries for the champagne at midnight. At 1 am we had a marshmellow roast and made smores. I got to see several friends that I had not seen in a while. I am still worn out and recovering from a long, fun night. I wish you all a great new year!

Christmas morning Anna and I went to Mom & Dads house for presents and lunch. We all had a great Christmas. We were able to be off Christmas Eve and Day. The food, naps, and movies were much needed. Oh, and on Eve we went had our traditional meal at The Bright Star, yummy!

Annual Cocktail Party

SUPRISE!!! Look who stopped by before the party got started...Barbie & Ken. They were leaving the 'Valley' and came by Roebuck Plaza on the way to their sweater party. Ken said to another party guest, "She's going home with me!!!" Needless to say she is already preggers. Whoohooo, baby Lincoln will be here in June! Thanks for the entertainment Niki & Jesse.

Anna and I host our Annual Cocktail Party in December. The big day was December 2oth. This party involves a lot of preperation and work but is well worth it in the end. Invitations are sent out 2 weeks before the event. We invite friends from high school, college, and mutual friends we have met over the past few years. After invitations go out the real work begins. We were lucky this year to have help from our parents. My Dad helped Anna get the keg. Mom loaned us her catering tent, Dad and Uncle Shine came to put it up. We always have wonderful food from Cafe On Main and other restaurants in town. On the menu this year was shrimp cocktail, hot spinach and artichoke dip, cheese ring, finger sandwiches, homemade cookies, peanut butter balls, martha washington balls, cheese straws, chicken salad, zesty cream cheese, keg beer, spirit punch, and lots of cocktails!!! There were probably around 65-75 guest that attended this year. When the party is going strong we do a group 'shot'. Anna made chocolate cake shots and I made chocolate mint shots. This is basically like a big cheers where we thank everyone for coming. Then BOOM we are all taking shots! Mom even joined in this year. She had a sour look on her face afterwards. Not only are we so thankful for all of our friends and family we are also lucky enough to help others. Every year we ask that the guests bring a toy for charity. For the past few years our charity of choice has been Toys for Tots. There were so many toys this year at the party. The Trussville Fire Department is always over joyed by this donation. Thank you so much to all of our friends who got to come this year! Par-tay pictures below...

Christmas Spectacular

Every month my supper club meets for dinner, fellowship, and a night away from home. November is the only month we don't meet because everyone is so busy. In December we go all out with games and 'spirits'. This year Jennifer hosted the Christmas party. Jennifer and Troy just built a beautiful home in Carrington. She had every room filled with decorations. Jennifer definately takes the hostess award for all of '08. She took care of EVERYTHING! Wine was provided by a local wine rep., she cooked dinner from Sanpeggio's Pizza, and slaved in the kitchen over a homemade carrot cake! After our stomachs were about to pop we were invited into the living room for a good 'ol round of dirty santa. Donna and Jennifer being the funny, creative teachers they are suprised everyone with hand-crafted ornaments from Hobby Lobby. I had a cat fight with Donna over the dream catcher ornament while she just 'had to have' the converse shoe kristin opened. Niki was lucky enough to open the pirate to take home to Jesse. Jennifer being the shopper she is got the cute Burberry teddy bear. Jodie took the prize with the hand-blown glass NASCAR ornament. Guess whats next??!!?!? THE ROCKETTES!!! That was the real treat of the night. Jennifer did such a great job getting our tickets together as well. I hope we have just as much fun next year. I love you girls! Whooo, what a night of laughter!

Thanksgving & Football Parties

Cafe On Main was closed several days for the Thanksgiving holiday. I really enjoyed having several days off. Thanksgiving day my family enjoyed a great lunch. That night my friend Lindsey and I went to see Four Christmas (great movie). Friday morning I FINALLY purchased a camera! There's nothing like a Black Friday special. Now I can share pictures. Saturday my friend Jeremy hosted a great Alabama vs Auburn football party. We all had a blast. Sunday I went to church and met my Mom for lunch. After lunch we went to see Australia (long but good movie as well). The long weekend was much needed and highly enjoyed!
